Lego Town

I've always had this dream of building a big lego town as detailed as possible. I've decided to stop dreaming and start working on it starting January 2005. I'm not exactly sure where to start though. I know I don't have nearly enough Lego yet. I have huge buckets of Lego way back home but it's too much and too expensive to have my mom ship it.

Not sure if I should start REALLY small with whatever pieces I can use now or go get some more bricks, like the cheap assorted bucket.

I am moving and found this Lego ideas book. The title page is missing so I don't know when it was published. It is from before the time they had all those specialized bricks. Fanciest bricks in this book are hinges, wheels and low slope roofs. It is not worth selling on ebay, so forget it if that is what you are after. I don't want to toss it. Thought there must be a Lego fan out there who would treat it with respect though. It is for children and you Lego pros won't learn much from it. If I had a scanner, I'd show you some pics

Anyone here want it? I am in the SF bay area and you' d have to pick it up.

My students need 21000 Lego bricks -Vancouver BC

Hello Lego fans,

I'm a teacher at a small school (www.wondertree.org) and my students, ages 6-9 years old, want to build a Lego house they can walk into and sit and eat their lunch. We have done some planning and calculations and have discovered that we need 21000, yes twenty-one thousand!!, 2x4 Lego bricks to complete the simple structure. We are looking for donations of Lego. We are also willing to borrow Lego bricks (we'd take a careful inventory first). We are also willing to purchase Lego bricks if the price is right. (We are a non-profit school). The bricks can by 2x2, 2x3, 2x4 or 2x8 and any colour.

We are located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

We are open to people coming and helping us build the structure and help us solve any problems that may arise as the structure is being built.

Please send me a message if you can help or if you have any ideas for our project.

Thank You Lego maniacs!

As I mentioned in vikings subject, I am Moving to Nevada, I have a plan that my grandfather and I are going to work on. you see our house is near the Black Rock Desert, but we are not going there for this... I am going to build a Launch pad for a safisticated Model Type rocket. Inside I plan on putting the first Lego man "by himself" into space. The recovery will be tricky but I know it can be done. i have friends who have done this with just rockets and it usually is a 20-30 second burn. But the recovery is always fun the usually have to go into Utah to retrieve the rocket. I am putting mass thought into this, but will keep you Lego buffs informed. Hope you enjoy the other post too...

Lego in space...

News Date: May 31, 2001

The LEGO Company, one of the world's leading toy companies, teamed up with Space Media, Inc.(TM) and RSC Energia to conduct the first-ever toy experiment performed on the International Space Station (I.S.S.). The LEGO® Life on Mars "Red Planet Protector" set, along with 300 miniature LEGO aliens, blasted into outer space on the Soyuz 206 ("2S") launch from Baikonur, Kazakhstan, Russia to the I.S.S.

Cosmonauts Talgat Musabaev, Soyuz Commander, and Yuri Baturin, flight engineer, performed a videotaped experiment to measure mass in space and the importance of learning to live and work in a zero-gravity environment. Using the LEGO Life on Mars Red Planet Protector model, they were able to demonstrate how the mass of an object is determined in a weightless environment by measuring its oscillation frequency.

"Using LEGO Life on Mars toys to perform the first toy-based experiment on the I.S.S. is exciting, because kids are learning about science and space in a fun, new and creative way," says Yuri Baturin, flight engineer on the Soyuz 206. "This is a one-of-a-kind, breakthrough experiment that's never been done before."

"We're thrilled to have the opportunity to be the first educational toy demonstration on the I.S.S," says Andrew Black, president of LEGO Systems, Inc. "We pride ourselves on developing products for kids of all ages that are not only fun, but encourage creativity and learning at the same time. This in-orbit experiment propels our brand value to new heights. We hope that when kids see this scientific demonstration using LEGO toys -- something they're familiar with -- that it will spark an interest to learn more about science and space."

The Red Planet Protector that actually flew on the I.S.S. will be displayed inside the LEGO Life on Mars Encounter Truck Tour, an interactive, hands-on exhibit for families, which is traveling throughout North America starting in June. The truck is packed with both realistic space artifacts and creative Mars- and space-themed displays. The 300 LEGO aliens that visited the I.S.S. are being awarded to a select number of kids who enter the LEGO Life on Mars Survival Challenge building contest. The contest championship will take place at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex this September in Florida. Curriculum for the videotaped experiment was developed by Challenger Center for Space Science Education and has been distributed to its network of Challenger Learning Centers throughout the U.S. and Canada, to teach kids about the difference between measuring the mass of objects on Earth versus in a zero-gravity environment.

The new LEGO Life on Mars line, comprised of eight products ranging in price from $3.99 to $89.99 (USD), launched in January and currently is a top-selling toy line at retail.

LEGO Systems, Inc. (LSI) is the Americas (North America and Latin America) division of the LEGO Company, a privately-held firm based in Billund, Denmark. The LEGO Company employs nearly 2,000 people in the Americas - approximately one half of whom work at LSI's 203-acre headquarters in Enfield, Connecticut. The LEGO Company is committed to the development of children's creative and imaginative abilities, and its employees are guided by the motto adopted in the 1930s by founder Ole Kirk Christiansen: "Only the best is good enough." Visit www.LEGO.com.

Space Media, Inc. (TM) (SMI) SPACEHAB subsidiary Space Media, Inc., was created in January 2000 to develop multimedia business for the Enterprise commercial space station habitat project. Space Media will be producing space-focused content for TV broadcasting and Internet distribution based on exclusive access to Enterprise.

In the near term, Space Media is focusing on space education, online retailing, and content development. Space Media operates the STARS® global education program, which enables students to design experiments that are then flown in space. For more information on the program, see www.starsprogram.com. In July 2000, Space Media acquired The Space Store (www.thespacestore.com), an online retail business that offers hundreds of space-related items for sale. Space Media has access to archives of the Russian space program for its content development initiatives.

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, located 45 minutes east of Orlando on Florida's Space Coast, a day becomes an odyssey as guests experience the past, present and future of America's space program. Guests can also meet a real astronaut, touch a piece of Mars and experience IMAX® space films. For more information, call 321-449-4444 or visit www.KennedySpaceCenter.com.

Challenger Center for Space Science Education was created in 1986 by the families of the astronauts tragically lost during the Challenger space shuttle mission in January of that year. Dedicated to the educational spirit of that mission, Challenger Center develops learning centers and other educational programs worldwide to continue the mission to engage students in science and math education.

Hey all. I was under the impression that the new Viking sets were not going to be available here in North America. Well, I must have misunderstood, because I picked up Viking boat vs. the wyvern dragon yesterday, and it's completely AWESOME! The paint application on the viking helmets and weapons is beautiful, making them look like aged iron. I highly recommend it!

Sorry, hate to brag, but its always so terrific when you find something cool... today, at a flea market, I nabbed a Lego case FULL of plants, flowers, animals, and other parts... whoever this has belonged to apparently had an obsession, and had TONS of the older-skool stuff, like the pirates and castle sets and whatnot... anyway, this collection was being sold off case by case, and the parts were sorted by color or type, so unfortunately lots of those old sets are probably broken up for good now, but damn, SO MANY FLOWERS! Woot!

The guy who was selling all this (a junk vendor) is gonna let me see whatever else he's got left this week, so wish me luck! He said he didn't know if he had whole sets or not, but hell, even old parts can be recombined to old sets if I pull the instructions off from brickshelf.com! Woot!

So, what do you all think about the current crop of Lego sets? What about the older sets? Is there stuff you'd like to see again? Sets that should never have been made? How about the licensing of movie and character properties for the toys?

I'm curious about people's opinions, I'll post mine after we get a few.

Rocks! Okay, its a kid's game, the puzzles and bosses aren't THAT hard to figure out. But its a damned sight better than any other Lego game that's come out, the models look terrific, and its really fun to play 2-player and watch your minifigs beat the hell out of each other!

Hey! I just joined, I love the bricks. Here's my brickshelf gallery, if anyone cares to take a look: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=InvaderJesse
Not much there, and it's all really REALLY simple, I only have my Brickmaster set and the first four X-pods to build with at the moment. Anyway, just introducing myself, and hopefully I'll soon be able to post some amazing wonders in our photo gallery. Not holding my breath, though.

I forgot to post when I got them but I am gonna do it now. My best friend Vu gave me two amazing LEGO sets for Christmas. The Millenium Falcon and the Imperial AT-AT.

He came to visit for Christmas and it prompted us to go on a building binge. We built the two new sets and all of my other sets. I will post pics this week I hope.

I also got to go to the LEGO store in Disneyland again. Woot!
