Lego Town

I've always had this dream of building a big lego town as detailed as possible. I've decided to stop dreaming and start working on it starting January 2005. I'm not exactly sure where to start though. I know I don't have nearly enough Lego yet. I have huge buckets of Lego way back home but it's too much and too expensive to have my mom ship it.

Not sure if I should start REALLY small with whatever pieces I can use now or go get some more bricks, like the cheap assorted bucket.

So how are you going to do this? Design your own town or use the instructions from the kits that Lego sells? I think that would be pretty cool to do too... if I had the time.

Post some pics if you start making some progress in Jan. :)

Build my own. Perhaps incorporate certain small sets. I'll have to start really small then maybe rearrange my bedroom a bit hehe. I might have my mom mail the old battery packs I had since they don't seem to be available anymore. That way the town might be able to have some lights later on.

I will definitely be posting photos!

Good plan Zell, perhaps there are some tribe friends who can send you their Lego-bricks if they don’t “play” with them anymore. You could have my bricks, but I gave them to my nephew. I can’t take the Lego back from him, because he plays a lot with it.
Don’t forget to update us with some pictures.

Okay, I've started ...somewhat. I posted a couple shots of the fire house with green plates on each side. I don't have any roof tiles and very little random bricks so I figured I'd give the two little buildings flat roofs for now. I'll of course change this later when I get more of the bricks I need. So far people aren't a problem. I have a healthy amount of mini figures now but will probably spring for the 'community workers' pack some time.

    :)

Nice pictures and a great start for your Lego town. It’s a safe start too, no chance of houses burning down now; the fire brigade is ready to put out any fire.
      Thanks for sharing your pictures.

      :)

The town's actually coming along nicely. I got a couple road plates, roof tiles and flowers. I actually don't have much room on my bedroom floor, but I'm thinking of extending the road going left and it should build nicely around a cabinet I have near the houses.

I find that I still need more random bricks and might have to spring for a crate of 'em.

Looks like a nice town to me already, a shortage of random bricks is a universe problem for all of us I guess.
Keep us updated with these nice pictures as the city expands.

The madness continues. New pictures of the 'Building Bonanza' set I call the Mayor's Mansion, because in this town it is. Road's been expanded and a couple new buildings are up. I've lucked out and found a woman selling her son's Lego incredibly cheap.

Oh man! That is impressive. It makes me want to get the coast guard set; that beachfront rocks!

I've been lazy taking photos, but not with building the town. I've added a few new photos to the tribe's album. I took over 60 though and have uploaded them on Flickr. You can see them all here: www.flickr.com/photos/win...ets/621398/

Your town looks great. Love the beach area.

Made me jealous as I'm still not allowed to remove my train and town from the family home. Mum says I can have it when I have a 30 foot shed to put it in.

We have some Lego sets here but my boys aren't content with leaving them together like I like to do.

i have done some small towns with my legos..i have some 50kg (approx) but its never enough..i stick on middle age towns and castles...once i built a castle, and kept adding new small town houses and mills around it...time zone helps to collect certain colours, and bricks..in last few years i concantrated on minifugs..thats all..creating a town seems like hassle for me..moving around lots and shipping legos preety much impossible...but i can always ship minifigs around..

The best way to do a lego town is to get together with a bunch of people and put one together at a model train show... find your nearest LUG (Lego User Group) or LTC (Lego Train Club) if you haven't already... see www.lugnet.com to get started.
